t h e S T R A N G E R S

I keep hearing that people didn't understand the film The Strangers. This i can understand, however when they begin saying that was the films let down then i kindda get ticked off. I don't understand what the public want in a film. Americans didn't like The Mist because of its brilliant ending and now British people do not like the Strangers because they didn't understand. And what didn't they understand well ill tell you but beware of spoilers.

The film centers around a couple who come back from a wedding to the family vacation home there alone and there is hints that Liz Tyler declined her boy friend Scott Speedmen's hand in marriage. That was the storyline for the main characters. However the main storyline was the fact that three masked covered people where trying to taunt/play with them. We never found out why they did this, and that was the whole point. It was the fact we didn't know why they would try to harm these people who they do not know[we assume they don't] they just say because you where home. That is the storyline yet people want answers. Which is cock and bull shit. Why do we need to know everything? We don't. We may never know why people do stuff like this and the fact the film was based on true events made it pretty simple that they never found out why the killers did it in real life. That just makes it more scary yet all people do is say "I don't get it why did they do that?"
I also hear people complain that they should have seen who these people where. I don't understand why you would. It makes it more scary that you don't see the face of the killers that you don't found out the personality of the person. It makes it more real. It just shows that it could be anyone. The boy or girl next door, it could be them. The old women down the street it could be her. Them two things i think are what made the film so brilliant.

It was like watching the original Halloween but in modern day. Halloween is one of the most classic cult films ever and they followed them rules, they dint tell you why he was going after Laurie, it didn't tell you much to what happened to make him turn out like that and that my friends is what makes a film so scary and true. Look how far Halloween has come form the first movie and i cant with out a doubt believe that the Strangers will get the same treatment in years to come.
If i wanted to see a pointless film that isn't remotely scary then id watch the remake of Halloween. The film that showed you why Micheal turned out like he did, what his motives where. They killed the film by doing that. I just don't understand why people always want to know why. Why is the sky blue, because it is. Why do we need air, because we do etc. Its this ridicules thought that destroys horror movies today.

I loved the Strangers, i thought it was scary, nicely written and it made you jump now and again. Sure it had its down falls like any film. How ever they where only little bloopers. The one thing i didn't like was when Liz is on the floor out side crawling and the Doll Face girl is behind her doing nothing. That was just to scare the viewer it wasn't for the character so that bit was a crappy but other then that the film was brilliant. Scary int he right places and it makes you feel unsafe in your own home.

The country music that was playing during the film added to the film, the fact that they didn't add background music to the film was brilliant. You could feel the tension in the film, the fear these two characters had. The camera being hand held worked well with the film giving it that heat beating fear effect. This film should be in all horror fans top 20 by far. For me its in my top 10.
